Excursion by bus to Tivoli: Villa D'Este and Villa Adriana

The excursion lasts for half a day (4 hours), the appointment will be fixed in a hotel or in other place to be agreed.

Tivoli can be reached via motorway A24 Roma/L'Aquila, exit Tivoli, located about 30 km from Rome city center.

Tivoli is located on the slopes of Tiburtini mountains, along the Aniene river and near the waterfall, a town famous for its hot springs and some architectural structures known in all the world and Unesco heritage, such as Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este.

We start our visit to Villa D'Este, the residence of Cardinal Ippolito II D'Este from1560 when he was the governor of Tivoli; in his garden there are fountains, nymphs, grottoes, plays of water and music emulated in the gardens of all Europe.

We continue with a visit to Villa Adriana, built from 117 AD by Emperor Hadrian to be used as Imperial Villa outside Rome, today it is the most important and most extensive ancient Roman Villa remained.

At the end of the tour we return to the hotel or we can combine the half day with a lunch in a restaurant or other excursion or tour of Rome.

Excursion by bus to Ostia Antica

The excursion lasts for half a day (4 hours), the appointment will be fixed in a hotel or in other place to be agreed.

Ostia is located in the direction of the coast and can be reached following along Via del Mare and Via dei Romagnoli, about 30 km from Rome city center.

The tour starts with the visit of the Castle built by Pope Julius II in 1483, facing the entrance of the archaeological excavations (entrance free, not accessible to wheelchair users due to lack of facilitated access).

Entering from Via Ostiense and passing Porta Romana, you are in Piazzale della Vittoria. On the right there are the Republican Stores and the Baths of Neptune with the gym and the marine mosaics.

We continue the visit of the excavations with attention to: Piazzale delle Corporazioni, the Theatre, Via di Diana with balconies, the Thermopolium and the Capitolium (center of the city).

At the end of the tour we return to the hotel or we can combine the half day with a lunch in a restaurant or other excursion or tour of Rome.

Excursion by bus to Castelli Romani (Roman Castles area): Castel Gandolfo – Albano Lake – Nemi Lake - Frascati

The excursion lasts for half a day (4 hours), the appointment will be fixed in a hotel or in other place to be agreed.

If we come from Rome, we must take the Via Appia to reach Roman Castles area.

The first place to visit is Castel Gandolfo, the Pope's summer residence.

Then we continue to Albano, located on the homonymous lake, and Genzano, where on the day of Corpus Christi citizen realize the "infiorata": it is an event where people designs on the street or in a square some holy figures and after they color them with flower petals.

Passing through Ariccia with its 80-meter high bridge, we reach Nemi and the homonymous lake.

Along the street, we meet Rocca di Papa, 750 meters above sea level, from where we can see the whole valley of Rome, and Grotta Ferrata famous for its Abbey.

Finally we arrive in Frascati, the greatest location of Castelli Romani area, where we can stroll through the narrow streets and above all we can taste a good wine known and appreciated abroad.

Excursion by bus to Cerveteri: The Etruscan Necropolis and the Museum.

The excursion lasts for half a day (4 hours), the appointment will be fixed in a hotel or in other place to be agreed.

If we came from Rome, go along the Via Aurelia and then the A12 motorway in north direction to reach Cerveteri after about 50 km.

Here there is the Etruscan Necropolis of “Banditaccia", Unesco heritage site since 2004, the oldest and largest necropolis in the Mediterranean area, developed on over 400 hectares of land and with around 2000 Etruscan tombs.

In the necropolis there are the main types of Cerveteri tombs from the ninth to the second century BC.

The oldest tombs are Villanovan, they may be pits dug for the burial or wells to preserve the ashes of the deceased.

Some finds from the necropolis are kept in the National Archaeological Museum of Cerveteri that we can visit to have a more complete idea of the Etruscan civilization.
